Born in 1962 in Heilongjiang, graduated from the Department of Fine Arts of Hebei Normal University in 1989, Yue Minjun is a famous contemporary artist in China.
Yue is a representative artist of Cynical Realist movement, the mainstream art trend in contemporary China since the early 1990s. His original personal facial image "laughing face" occupies a unique position in the history of Chinese contemporary art, and has become a typical symbol for international recognition of Chinese images. Yue Minjun, on behalf of China's new cultural image, was invited to participate in a series of important international exhibitions, such as Open Boundary: The 48th Venice Biennale, Venice, Italy, Post Auratic Self Portrayal of Yue Minjun. In 2007, Yue Minjun won the Time's annual celebrity with outstanding achievements and he also won the top prize of "the first Anderson Nightingale Luminary Award" in Denmark in 2013. His works are widely collected by important art institutions at home and abroad, such as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (FMOMA), Denver Art Museum and the Culture Center of Francois Mitterrand, etc.
I Inspired from the well-known Rodin’s work in the history of art, the thinker, which is a part of the group of Hell's Gates. It expresses the ultimate human problem of good and evil, and life and death, thus forming a broad world consensus and atmosphere. Chongqing Thinker wants to transform the atmosphere of Aichi into a new regional atmosphere, forcibly intervening in the regional cultural dilemma, and trying to explore the connection between human wholeness and locality to introduce turbulence and confusion to the audience, thus reminding people to get rid of the limitations of local areas, bravely laugh at their own lingering narrow vision.
